training tips
recall teach your dog to come when called
|
A fun way to teach your dog to come
back to you is to play hide 'n' seek.
Start indoors and make your hiding places simple to start with - behind
the sofa etc. When your dog finds you
give them a tasty treat or have a little game with them.
When you play hide 'n' seek
outdoors, your dog's safety is vital so have someone with you to hold onto the
leash whilst you go off to hide.
Teaching your dog to come when
called is fun,and the more fun you have, the moreyour
dog will want to be with you.

jumping up how to stop your dog jumping up
|
Jumping up is a normal greeting
behaviour for dogs and sometimes we encourage it by fussing them when they do it!
Turn away from your dog when they
jump up, and praise & reward them when all 4 paws are back on the floor. If necessary, turn away and walk away - your
dog will soon get the message.
Remember not to give your dog any
attention until it has all paws on the floor, so do
not speak, look at or touch your dog as these
are all ways we give them attention, which is what they want!
By
praising and rewarding your dog for having all paws on the floor, you are
encouraging the behaviour you want, rather than nagging them for doing what you
do not want.
